Nick Boone joined the Rend Lake College coaching staff in the summer of 2024 as an assistant coach. In 2024-2025 he helped the Warriors to a 18-15 record, increasing the win total by 10 in just one year, and warranted a Region 24 Championship appearance. In his role, primarily running the offense, the Warriors improved PPG from 60.2 to 78.9, as well as improvements in FG, 3FG, FG%, 3FG%, AST, RPG, and more. RLC also produced 3 all-conference and 2 all-region players in Boone's first season: Elijah Edosa, Opeyemi Wilson, and Rolen Adams.
In Year 2 (2025-2026), the Warriors went 22-9 (11-3 in conference) and fell in the postseason to eventual National Champions, Parkland College, which put the season series at 2-1 in favor of RLC. While spearheading the offense again, the Warriors increased in PPG, RPG, APG, FTM, FT%, and TOPG. The 22 wins were the most at Rend Lake since 2013 and helped cultivate a national ranking as high as #12 on the season. The Warriors produced 3 All-Conference players: Navontae Nesbit, Opeyemi "Zeke" Wilson, and Elijah Edosa. Edosa would also later be named an NJCAA D2 2nd Team All-American. In Boone's first two seasons with the Warriors, they compiled a 40-24 record, and the first back-to-back winning seasons since 2017.
Before RLC, Boone was a Graduate Assistant at Friends University (NAIA), who is a part of the KCAC conference, and is located in Wichita, KS. At Friends (2022-2024) he worked under two head coaches: Phil McClintock and Austin McBeth. Boone recruited and coached 2 All-Conference Team players and 2 All-Freshman Team players and helped lead recruiting, fundraising, scouting, and all social media engagement. In each of the two seasons, the Falcons improved in PPG, FG%, and TOs/game.
Boone began his coaching career at Pendleton High School in South Carolina under Darrel Hedrick from 2020-2022. In those two seasons he worked as the "Defensive Coordinator" in charge of defensive schemes in practice and games, as well as guard development. Boone coached 3 All-Region Guards in 2 years with the program.
Prior to coaching, Boone played baseball at Southeastern Community College (JUCO) in Burlington, Iowa under Justin Schulte and transferred to the University of South Carolina - Upstate (D1) under Mike McGuire and Kane Sweeney. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Clemson University and attained his master's in business administration from Friends University. He is no newcomer to Southern Illinois, as he attended high school at O'Fallon Township High School (2018) in O'Fallon, IL.
